Buying for Quality/Investment (a.k.a. Spending More Money than You Want to) – Beats Solo2 Wireless Headphones

*IMMEDIATE SIDE BAR: Let’s be real.  We all want something that’s out of our spending range to just buy on a whim.  Some of us have to save up for a while in order to make a purchase and others just CAN’T make the purchase. Or you might be the person who would rather buy a cheaper version and still have money left over.  No matter what your situation is, it’s not going to be the same as someone else’s.  You can’t compare your financial situation.  I don’t have kids.  I don’t have a husband.  I just have two dogs, a cat, and a nice house I got really lucky with on the price  (I’m paying less for my mortgage, including escrow) than I was paying for rent).

My goal with this post, and other posts similar to this, is to provide an honest review of the product that will give you the information you need to make a decision.

This particular post will review the Beats Solo2 Wireless Headphones.  I purchased my pair from Amazon (link below) for $199.99.  I selected the Shock Yellow color, which has gone down to $179.99 on Amazon.

I’ve been wanting to purchase a pair of Beats headphones ever since they came out.  I love over-ear headphones period as earbuds tend to make my ears sore after a while.  But most over-ear headphones (think brands like Logitech) I’ve had always moved around on my head or fell off.

What kept me from purchasing these when they first came out, besides being so high-priced, was the “would you jump off a bridge if your friends did?” stigma attached to them.  I’m not going to buy something because everyone else is buying it and because it’s the popular item.  So I stuck with earbuds that came with my iPod or the Logitech headphones I had lying around.

Fast forward 8-ish years later.  I’ve graduate college twice, have a professional engineering license and am in my second job with a substantial pay raise from my previous job.  My office shares a wall with a skating rink, which more often than not isn’t a big deal.  Sometimes the bass is overwhelming to my senses, so I’ll pop in headphones and listen to music, but I could always hear the bass.

A co-worker of mine has a pair of Beats headphones, not sure of the exact model, but they look newer.  His aren’t wireless, but he recommended them.  They drowned out noise such as the bass and general office chatter, which can also be distracting at times.  Plus the music quality is great.

I decided to take my chances.

These are a thing of beauty!  (I’ll post my own photos later, I’m on my lunch break writing this post).

They come with a soft case, and fold for easy storage.  They’re adjustable, lightweight, and comfortable.  Sometimes  I can’t even feel that I’m wearing them.  They really do drown out a majority of noise, which allows me to focus.  Listening to music with these makes me feel like I’m at a live show (minus the screaming fans of course) or listening from a speaker rather than headphones.  I hope that makes sense.

The blue-tooth functionality is an added bonus.  One of the problems I had when working out was the damn cord always getting in the way.  Now I don’t have that problem.  They’re also great for cleaning house.  I recommend leaving your phone (or other music playing device) in a central location.  These have a range of 30 feet.  At work, I can step away from my desk to pick something up from the printer and not lose my connection.

I can also control the music from the headphones themselves.  Press the button once to pause.  Quickly press it twice to fast forward to the next song.  Feel like starting the song over?  Quickly press three times.

I don’t see myself buying another pair of headphones for many years to come, so as an investment, these are definitely worth it.  Whether you’re able to drop the money right now, or have to save for them, you won’t be wasting your money if my review applies to you.
